Chandigarh, [India], May 23, 2024: Dietician Priyanka, founder of Indyte, a Chandigarh-based healthcare startup focused on personalised nutrition, has expressed concern over the rising number of hypertension cases in the city. High blood pressure, often with no noticeable symptoms, can lead to significant health problems if left unchecked, including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and even vision loss. Dietitian Priyanka emphasised the importance of awareness and lifestyle changes in managing hypertension.
She began her career as an intern at AIIMS, Delhi, and gained experience at renowned hospitals such as Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Apollo Indraprastha between 2012 and 2015. In 2016, Priyanka relocated to Chandigarh, where she served as a Clinical Dietitian for a year and a half. In 2018, she established her clinic, Priyanka’s Diet Clinic. Priyanka has an M.Sc and M.phill in Nutrition and Dietetics. Indyte, recognised by DPIIT as a healthcare startup, was founded in May 2023.
“Stress, unhealthy eating habits, lack of exercise, and family history are all contributing factors,” she said. “Data from the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5) shows a significant rise in hypertension and obesity in Chandigarh compared to previous years.” Dietitian Priyanka warned that these conditions are often interrelated, creating a complex web of health challenges. She noted that Chandigarh has a higher prevalence of hypertension and diabetes compared to the national average.
Dietary Choices and Sedentary Lifestyle Blamed
Dietitian Priyanka pointed out that despite increased awareness, the number of people with hypertension is expected to rise. The convenience of processed foods and a more sedentary lifestyle are major contributors.
