From a Sister’s Dream to a Global Stage: The Story of Ranjvani

Surat, (Gujarat), [India], July 01, 2024: Imagine this: you drape a saree around yourself, the fabric soft against your skin, the colors vibrant and rich. It’s more than just clothing; it’s a story whispered in every thread, a connection to a weaver’s hand and a timeless tradition. This is the vision that Ranjvani, a brand founded by siblings Ranjan Mulani, Vanita Karakar, and Kaushik Dhoajiya, strives to bring to life.

Ranjvani’s story began in 2017, fueled by a shared dream. Ranjan and Vanita, sisters with a passion for modern design and exquisite craftsmanship, envisioned a platform to showcase India’s handloom treasures. Their brother, Kaushik, joined them, taking the reins of marketing and management. But the heart of Ranjvani belonged to the sisters’ unwavering focus on quality and design.

“A great product beats great service, every time,” Ranjan believed. But she also felt a deeper calling. She envisioned sarees that transcended mere fabric; sarees that whispered stories of their creation, of the weavers’ hands that brought them to life.

Their journey wasn’t easy. In June 2021, with an initial investment of ₹3.5 lakh and just 120 stock keeping units (SKUs), they started small. The initial days were a whirlwind of activity. From marketing to packaging, shipping, and customer service, the trio handled everything themselves, working tirelessly from their small office. Another challenge arose – reaching out to weavers in remote rural areas and ensuring timely deliveries.

But their dedication paid off. Today, Ranjvani boasts over 2600 SKUs, a testament to their commitment to showcasing the vast repertoire of India’s weaving traditions. They collaborate with over 50 weavers, empowering local talent and placing them on a global stage.

Their target audience? Women aged 25 to 55, who appreciate the slow fashion movement, the beauty of handloom, and the stories woven into every thread. Ranjan and Vanita believe that every saree has a story, and their mission is to share these narratives with the world.

Presently, Ranjvani caters to a global audience, shipping to over 10 countries, including the USA, UK, Dubai, and Australia. Their success is a reflection of their core values: quality, customer focus, and a deep respect for the weaving heritage of India.

Looking ahead, Ranjvani is poised for even greater heights. With a projected target of 50,000 orders this year, they are not just selling sarees; they are weaving a legacy of empowered artisans, sustainable fashion, and the magic of Indian craftsmanship. So, the next time you drape a Ranjvani saree, remember the story it carries – a story of resilience, sisterhood, and a deep love for India’s textile traditions.
